- consider the wellbeing and safety of participants before the development of player skills.
- develop an appropriate working relationship with the players based on mutual respect and trust.
- make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part. (coaches must be familiar with the appropriate sections of the RFU continuum)
- promote fair play
- never condone the breaking of the spirit or laws of the game
- never promote the use of banned substances
- never argue with an official - appropriate discussions/debate may be acceptable at a later date.
o The safety and well-being of participants should be considered before the development of skills and performance.
o An appropriate working relationship must be maintained between yourself and players, based on mutual trust and respect, and within appropriate boundaries.
o Plan and run coaching sessions which are appropriate to the age, skills and experience of the players taking part.
o Promote fair play and general good behaviour at all times.
o Be aware of all guidelines laid down by the RFU and by Southwark Tigers Rugby Club.
o Be willing to acquire any necessary coaching or First Aid qualifications and insurance cover.
o Never exert undue pressure over players in order to obtain personal benefit or reward. Value performance, not just results.
o Never encourage or condone rule violations, unfair play, swearing or other abusive language or behaviour. Always challenge any form of bullying behaviour.
